Craigslist Error: Flagging

What many users do not realize is that Craigslist is policed by its users. This means that users like you and I can flag any listing for any reason. There are four flagging categories on Craigslist, however only two a user would really have to be concerned with.

  1. Miscategorized –the listing was posted in the wrong section of craigslist.
  2. Spam/Overposting – too many listings are posted that look alike. If someone sees the same dealership banner, they may flag like this.

Overposting is the main cause for flagging. This occurs when a user tries to post their inventory on Craigslist too quickly. If you’re posting 10 cars at a time or more, then you’re probably getting flagged. The rules and conditions vary by craigslist markets, but posting a maximum of 5 cars at a time 2 – 3 times per day is a good rule of thumb.

For example, post 5-7 cars in the morning, then around lunch time post 5 more. Post another couple of vehicles toward the end of the day so they will always be at the top of the page without overloading the system.

In some larger markets, such as cities like Los Angeles, the rules are strict. If your market is busy try using mostly the plain layout. The plain layout is just like the generic Craigslist posting except with more information and pictures. In busy markets anything that looks computer generated will most likely get flagged.
